We are looking for a talented Transport Operations Manager to become part of our team at our site at Erith, London (DA18 4AF). The role involves managing daily transport operations for all contracts, utilising resources effectively to achieve optimal results. You will oversee drivers and the traffic office team to ensure the timely fulfilment of customer requirements. The shift patterns for this role are Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00 (Subject to Business Requirements).
Responsibilities- Organise the effective use of resources, vehicles, and personnel to meet SLA targets, ensuring daily deliveries exceed customer service expectations.
- Maintain detailed KPIs for customers and track expenditure logs and purchase orders.
- Delegate tasks daily and hold regular departmental meetings to promote continuous improvement and staff engagement.
- Ensure proper handling of goods to minimize damage and keep personnel trained in compliance.
- Investigate customer concerns promptly and implement countermeasures to prevent recurrence.
- Support transport operations with HR, Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) tasks, and conduct incident investigations.
- Report weekly charges accurately, monitoring subcontractor expenses, repairs, and overtime.
- Manage staff performance through reviews and disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Provide cover for Site or Contract Management and communicate any issues to the team swiftly.
- Submit daily and weekly performance reports to the Site Manager and Contract Management, offering training and coaching to surpass customer expectations.
- Represent the company in regular reviews and ensure adherence to company HR procedures and standards.
- Maintain compliance with 5S principles and monitor drivers' working time directives and vehicle regulations.
- Ensure drivers are briefed and assessments are timely.
- Manage training and assessments to maintain driving standards while working with central functions for accurate training records.
- Investigate road traffic collisions and vehicle issues.
- Deliver the ongoing Yusen Health and Safety (H&S) program, monitoring compliance, reviewing processes, and ensuring employee training, while continuously promoting workplace safety.
- Holder of a National or International CPC Qualification.
- Experience in the use of TMS & Tachomaster.
- Previous experience of leading and motivating a team.
- Previous Transport Management of running a medium-sized distribution network is essential.
- MHE licence is an advantage but not essential.
- LGV Class 1 licence is an advantage but not essential.
- Good attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.
- Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft packages.
- Ability to prioritise workload, effectively managing multiple tasks.
- Ability to work as part of a team to meet deadlines and prioritise.
