Location: Fully remote
Our client is looking for a freelance Medical Writer for up to 30 hours a week. This is initially for 1 month with a possibility of extension/ad-hoc work in future. This position would span a few different therapeutic areas, including but not limited to ophthalmology, nephrology, immunology, etc. The most important aspect is experience in medical affairs and the ability to hit the ground running.
Key Responsibilities
- Scientific knowledge: Confidently and quickly steps into new therapeutic areas, applying insights across accounts. Confidently leads discussions with clients and external experts on therapy area, drivers which influence treatment decision-making and patient pathways.
- Strategic knowledge: Helps to lead meetings and strategic discussions with authors and advisors.
- AI: Proactively utilises a broad range of AI solutions to streamline complex projects. Identifies opportunities to improve speed/effectiveness/efficiency of assigned projects, then investigates and proposes creative new AI-driven solutions to optimise delivery of assigned projects. Ensures adherence to best practices in AI application within projects.
- Project ownership: Leads content delivery for complex projects with minimal supervision from senior team, delegating to AMW/MWs as needed and where appropriate to ensure timely execution to a high standard.
- Project development: Challenges and evolves client briefs as appropriate to ensure a high-quality result aligned with a client’s goals.
- Quality control: Takes responsibility for overall quality of deliverables with minimal oversight. Reviews JMWs’ and MWs’ work for adherence to brief, client objectives and quality of writing, providing constructive feedback.
- Client liaison: Acts as scientific partner with clients and HCPs as required, with expert and up-to-date understanding of the therapy area.
- Growth and new business: Presents scientific content for new therapeutic areas for new business as part of pitch presentations. Provides input and recommendations to enhance service offering and support organic growth of designated accounts.
- Project management: Monitors project progress across the account and communicates needs for writer resource.
- Teamwork: Proactively flags company-wide needs for skills training to the training team.
Qualifications and skills
You should bring a strong scientific background with a degree in a scientific or medical discipline (post-graduate degree preferred). A high level of academic achievement is expected. You should bring previous experience of medical writing at an SMW level or above. A passion for, and profound understanding of, healthcare, science, medicine, and the pharmaceutical industry is essential, as well as a keen interest in AI technologies. You’ll need to be personable, articulate, and capable of nurturing relationships. Previous experience mentoring MWs and interacting regularly with clients is essential.
