Role Purpose

The role is responsible for shaping the future workplace experience by ensuring applications, devices, and digital services are secure, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned to business needs. A key focus of the role is application lifecycle management, application rationalisation, software approval governance, and ensuring proposed technologies align with enterprise architecture standards. Working closely with business stakeholders, security teams, infrastructure teams, procurement, and vendors, the Solution Architect will drive standardisation, reduce technology sprawl, and enhance the overall employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring IT solutions align with strategy, standards, industry best practice and functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Lead application governance to review, assess and approve new software and SaaS solutions against enterprise standards.
  • Identify duplication, non-strategic applications and create plans to consolidate and standardise the application portfolio.
  • Define and maintain standards, roadmaps and target state for end user computing.
  • Manage the technology approval process, improve software intake, evaluation and approval processes ensuring alignment with business needs.
  • Work with other teams in Group IT (security, risk) to ensure all software complies with standards.
  • Assess new workplace tools, applications and solutions conducting technical due diligence and recommending strategic adoptions where appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities for software rationalisation.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., MSP, ITIL, Prince 2, Agile) are highly desirable. TOGAF certification is preferable.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft InTune, M365, Entra ID, Windows Autopilot and endpoint security technologies.
  • Good communication skills and able to present solutions to audiences with various levels of technical understanding.
  • Ability to influence and engage with IT and business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in application assessment and technology evaluation.
  • Experience in application rationalisation and portfolio management.
  • Experience of working in software approval processes.
  • Cost optimisation and license rationalisation.
  • Pro-active and results oriented whilst remaining collaborative and fostering a positive working culture.
