Yunex Traffic designs, markets, manufactures, installs, and maintains a wide portfolio of international traffic management products and is the UK market leader in the traffic signal business. This includes intersection and pedestrian traffic controllers, intelligent urban traffic control systems, variable message signs, public transport and car park guidance systems to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow in congested urban and inter-urban areas.

The challenge
Part of being a #TrafficTransformer apprentice at Yunex Traffic means you get to work on real life projects whilst also being supported on a guided learning journey and often experiencing different areas within the business. Our apprentices get the opportunity to find their passion and, in turn, we get to experience their drive and zest for new ideas and initiatives. We are always looking for apprentices who want to make a difference to the world we live in. This will be a Degree Apprenticeship, over a 4-year period.
Role Specific Requirements
- Be willing to travel to multiple of our Yunex Traffic sites across the UK for training.
- Desire to contribute in a challenging and diverse environment.
- Willing to continuously research, learn and be creative.
- The ability to learn and adapt, recognise changing trends, and tackle the unexpected with enthusiasm.
Essential Skills
- Enjoy collaborating with others to find innovative solutions.
- Have a willingness to self-learn, research and take a creative approach to problem solving.
- Possess good organisational and time management skills to assist in completing the academic qualifications and occupational skills developments within this apprenticeship.
- Take ownership of challenges and ideas.
- Be forward thinking and inquisitive.
Whilst not essential, it would be a bonus if you already have experience with: Java, Databases, Cloud Technologies, and Kubernetes.
Basic Skills
- Have good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrate effective listening and teamwork skills, to create a collaborative work environment and strengthen relationships.
- Be IT literate; able to use Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Cloud Infrastructure & Automation
- Support building and maintaining AWS environments (EC2, Lambda, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, ECS/EKS).
- Contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform and help design scalable, resilient cloud architectures.
Deployments & Delivery
- Assist with automated deployment pipelines for applications, microservices, and infrastructure.
Autoscaling & Performance
- Help configure autoscaling, load balancing, and serverless scaling.
- Monitor performance metrics and support capacity planning and optimisation.
Security & Compliance
- Apply AWS security best practices (IAM, least-privilege, encryption, network segmentation).
- Support vulnerability scanning, patching, and compliance checks.
AI-Driven DevOps
- Explore AI-powered tools like Kiro to enhance automation and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to predictive analytics, automated remediation, and intelligent pipeline optimisation.
Collaboration & Learning
- Work with developers, platform and security engineers to deliver reliable solutions.
- Document infrastructure and processes while developing skills through hands-on engineering and degree-level study.
The location of this apprenticeship role will be Poole, Dorset.

Minimum Educational Requirements
- 4 GCSEs at 4 or above, including Maths and English (or Functional Skills/Apprenticeship equivalent).
- 3 A-Levels at grade C or above, or BTEC equivalent.
- A keen interest in embedded software and/or Electronic Engineering.

Recruitment Process
Applications for this Apprenticeship roles will close on 28th February 2026. For this role, we will be holding in-person interviews, some roles may also require attendance to a virtual interview, or in-person assessment centre. Assessment centres typically include a combination of tasks and activities such as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews, presentations, and role simulation exercises. Interviews are typically competency based and a chance for us to find out what your motivations are for your next career. Our Apprentices will join the business on Tuesday 1st September 2026, so you must be available from this date.
