A 12 month FTC opportunity has arisen within our Proposals team, for an Estimator responsible for the timely submission of competitively priced, technically and commercially sound offers through:
- Taking ownership of and managing assigned opportunities from initial bid/no bid assessment through to final submission and post-tender support.
- Examining and interpreting customer specifications and site drawings for equipment take offs and services.
- Coordinating cross functional cost and quality input from Consultancy Services, Field Services and Sales to tight timescales.
- Collating all costs and calculating accurate prices for the proposal.
- Discussing win strategy and making suggestions to sales and contract managers to determine the best price to submit.
- Preparing summary sheets and obtaining management approval for proposals in accordance with company processes.
- Providing information to assist Regional Sales Managers to follow up and progress submitted proposals.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the end to end preparation of submissions, coordinating technical, cost and commercial information into accurate, compliant and competitive proposals in line with company processes and timescales.
- Interpret customer specifications, drawings and requirements to develop robust cost build ups for ITS products (including road signals and related systems), ensuring technical and commercial integrity throughout the submission.
- Lead the collation and challenge of cost inputs from Consultancy Services, Field Services and other internal stakeholders, ensuring assumptions, risks and opportunities are properly understood and reflected in pricing.
- Develop and recommend competitive pricing strategies, contributing to bid / no bid discussions and win strategy development in collaboration with Sales and Contract Managers.
- Maintain ownership of offer governance, including preparation of pricing summaries, management approval documentation and compliance with internal commercial and approval frameworks.
- Work closely with Regional Sales Managers and Field Services Area Managers to align proposals with customer drivers, competitive pressures and regional delivery considerations, and to support post submission clarification and progression.
- Manage multiple offers concurrently, applying strong planning, organisation and time management skills to meet tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality.
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, taking responsibility for day to day proposal management while engaging with functional management for direction, escalation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A proven track record in estimating including specification and drawing interpretation, collating detailed cost inputs and developing accurate, competitive pricing strategies.
- Working knowledge of Intelligent Traffic Systems or similar technical products.
- Cross-functional co-ordination skills, with the ability to influence and align stakeholders and a strong dedication to teamwork.
- Dedication to the task, with good planning, organisation and time management with the ability to manage multiple proposals to tight deadlines.
- Customer focussed, understanding customer drivers, competitive pressures, bid/ no-bid considerations and margin protection.
- Time management, the ability to manage internal and external relationships and good attention to detail are vital for the role.
