Senior Litigation Manager - Business

Department: YUR - 2120 - Debt Enforcement & Mgt

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: Leicester

Reporting To: Head of Debt

At Yü Energy, we deliver energy solutions to commercial customers across the UK — and we’re growing fast. As we expand, we\'re looking for a dynamic, experienced Senior Litigation Manager to lead our in-house legal recovery operations and strengthen our external partnerships.

If you have significant experience managing an in-house legal team, working with enforcement and debt recovery agencies, and leading people through performance and process improvement — this could be your next challenge.

The Opportunity

As Senior Litigation Manager, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of post-termination debt recovery — from internal pre-litigation efforts to full legal enforcement. You’ll manage two core teams (Pre-Litigation & Litigation), drive strategy, and ensure we deliver strong financial outcomes while treating customers fairly.

This role is ideal for someone with 5–7 years\' proven experience in a similar environment. Energy industry experience is desirable but not essential. What’s key is your ability to lead, design effective recovery strategies, and manage a portfolio of external recovery partners.

What We Need From You

Here’s a taste of what you’ll be doing:

  • Managing Debt Recovery Partnerships

Lead the management of all third-party debt recovery relationships, including:

  • Enforcement agencies such as Bailiffs and High Court Enforcement Officers
  • Debt recovery and trace agencies for accounts not suitable for legal action
  • Conduct due diligence to identify and onboard new partners
  • Negotiate and formalise service agreements, ensuring smooth operational onboarding and data integration
  • Share and validate data, ensuring what’s sent is clean and what’s returned is high-quality performance
  • Develop and maintain a performance scorecard to evaluate partner outcomes and influence allocation of case volumes
  • Chair regular business performance reviews to ensure alignment with targets and continuous improvement
  • Address underperformance through collaborative engagement or exit planning where necessary

Pre-Litigation Team Management

  • Lead a team of 7 Collection Advisors and an Insolvency Specialists
  • Provide coaching, development, and performance support to build confidence and capability
  • Set KPIs, monitor results, deliver regular reviews and ensure robust quality assurance

Litigation Team Oversight

  • Manage the Litigation Team Leader and a team of 6 Litigation Executives plus an Administrator
  • Oversee litigation casework via Proclaim, including:
  • Pre-action protocols, County Court claims, defended litigation (Small, Fast, Intermediate, and Multi Track)
  • Settlements, consent orders, set asides, statutory demands, winding-up petitions, and enforcement
  • Support work across England, Wales, and Scotland, engaging Scottish solicitors where necessary
  • Handle both pursuit and defence of claims, including negotiation and resolution of complex disputes
  • Mentor and develop the Litigation TL and team members — many of whom are qualified or working towards qualification

Strategic Leadership & Operational Oversight

  • Design and analyse debt recovery strategies to maximise returns within bad debt provision targets
  • Drive automation and integration across systems (Junifer, Salesforce, Proclaim) to streamline processes
  • Collaborate with insolvency practitioners to secure recoveries through complex or high-value estate cases
  • Manage a live case portfolio (approx. 800 open cases), targeting high closure rates and recovery performance

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • 5–7 years’ proven experience managing an in-house legal/debt recovery team (not just in a solicitor firm setting)
  • Strong experience with external recovery and enforcement agency management
  • Excellent understanding of civil litigation, insolvency, and enforcement procedures across England, Wales and Scotland
  • Confident leader with a collaborative, coaching style – able to build capability and engagement within new teams
  • Commercially aware – understands the link between bad debt provision, cash collection, and company profitability
  • Technically astute – able to analyse data and improve processes, ideally with experience of case management platforms like Proclaim
  • Proactive and structured in approach to managing people, processes and partnerships

What We Offer

We have a wide range of benefits for our employees including:

  • 24 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Holiday buy – up to 5 additional days
  • Day off on your birthday
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Annual salary review
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Enhanced paternity, maternity and adoption policies
  • Yü made a difference Awards
  • 3 days additional annual leave if you get married/civil partnership etc.
  • Appointment allowance
  • Long service recognition
  • Refer a friend payment
  • Company sick pay (subject to length of service)
  • New modern facilities
  • Death in service and critical illness cover
  • Plus, many more

Please note that this position does not fulfil the UK Visas & Immigration sponsorship criteria for Skilled Worker, therefore we can only accept applications from candidates who already have an indefinite right to work in the UK. If you need any reasonable adjustments to help you apply for a role, please let us know and we will see what we can do.
