Are you a Drainage Engineer looking for a new type of challenge? Do you have the skills to help keep a high-performing team motivated and effective? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you within our Developer Services team as an Engineer.

Our Developer Services team is responsible for reviewing new development proposals and ensuring they will not affect the efficient operation of the public water supply and sewerage network. We are a busy team of professionals, and we pride ourselves on our reputation for delivering a professional, high-quality service to our customers.

In this role, you will form part of a small engineering team and site inspectors, covering the Wessex Water area. The team provides advice and guidance to property developers, assessing and commenting on the potential impact of any new sewerage infrastructure proposals submitted. They also procure and monitor agreements for proposed works relating to the adoption of sewerage infrastructure and proposals to divert public sewers and water mains.

Day-to-day, the team works to tight timescales and budgetary limits while still maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of customers and stakeholders. You will also assist the Development Engineer, who will lead all team activities. You will need to be motivated, customer-focused and fully efficient, no matter what challenges you may face. You'll also need to assist with implementing business initiatives and improving processes across the department.

What you'll need

To be successful, you'll need a positive attitude, the ability to demonstrate performance management, personal resilience, and excellent organisation and decision-making skills. Alongside your personal attributes, we'd hope you would have a formal civil engineering qualification, but construction or engineering experience is also acceptable. Your technical experience should include knowledge of water and wastewater services, including sustainable drainage systems and a sound understanding of the industry's regulatory environment, including the Adoption Code and Sewerage Sector Guidance.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A Β£1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
