We are seeking a highly motivated Safety Critical Maintenance Technician (ATEX) to join our Bioresources operations team. This is a key safety-critical role, responsible for ensuring the inspection, maintenance and compliance of ATEX equipment across the site, while also supporting regional activities. You’ll play a vital part in maintaining site safety, managing risks associated with explosive atmospheres (DSEAR) and ensuring all work complies with statutory and company requirements.

What you’ll do:

  • Support and promote a strong health & safety culture across the site.
  • Contribute to toolbox talks and safety alerts based on operational insights.
  • Assist with accident investigations, audits, and inspections.
  • Support DSEAR compliance and ignition risk assessments.
  • Ensure ATEX inspection compliance and oversee remedial actions.
  • Assist with legal and statutory inspections, regionally.
  • Lead ATEX inspection programmes and remedial works at Avonmouth.
  • Support regional ATEX work where required.
  • Manage workflows, job planning, and maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with asset repair timelines and maintenance KPIs.
  • Maintain accurate asset data and documentation (e.g. P&IDs, asset systems).
  • Coordinate emergency and reactive maintenance activities.

What you’ll need:

  • A minimum level 3 in mechanical engineering or working towards or hold CompEx certification (Ex01–Ex04 & Ex11).
  • Relevant technical qualifications or experience with electrical systems.
  • A desire to develop within process safety (e.g. IChemE training beneficial).
  • Experience working in a safety-critical maintenance environment.
  • Knowledge of ATEX / DSEAR regulations and compliance.
  • A strong understanding of maintenance planning and asset management.
  • Experience managing contractors and reviewing RAMS.
  • The ability to interpret technical documentation (e.g. P&IDs).
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • A full clean driving licence.
  • The ability to cover an out-of-hours standby rota.
