We are seeking an exceptional Project Director to lead the delivery of major, high-profile construction projects valued at £100m+. This role will initially focus on the landmark Aviva Arena at Brabazon, a flagship development that will redefine the region's built environment. This is a rare opportunity to take on a senior position at the forefront of a prestigious programme, shaping outcomes from concept through to completion. What you’ll do
- You’ll work closely with YTL Developments across all project stages, from pre‑construction through to delivery and handover.
- You’ll lead the project through the detailed design (RIBA 4) phase, developing scopes of work, managing tender processes, and defining the overall delivery strategy.
- Establish and drive the project delivery approach, including shaping the team structure and on‑site culture, while collaborating with design, commercial and construction teams to ensure buildability, cost efficiency and programme alignment.
- Develop and manage integrated programmes, logistics plans, and project controls, alongside leading, coaching and developing a high‑performing multidisciplinary construction team.
- Support recruitment and team development in partnership with the Divisional Director.
- Oversee daily site activities, ensuring delivery aligned to programme, budget, and quality expectations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, engaging at a senior level.
- Ensure robust Health & Safety practices and lead a positive safety culture on site.
- Implement and monitor quality assurance processes and standards.
- Identify, manage and mitigate risks to avoid delays, disputes, or reputational impact.
- Work closely with the Design Manager to resolve technical and construction challenges efficiently.
- Monitor project progress and provide clear reporting, escalating risks and key decisions when required.
- Support commercial objectives to achieve best value outcomes across the project.
- Engage key stakeholders, including the arena operator (YTL Live) and partners such as Aviva.
- Contribute to the wider business performance, continuous improvement and strategic objectives.
What you’ll need
- Proven experience delivering large‑scale, complex construction projects (typically £100m+ value).
- Strong technical understanding of construction, design processes, standards and legislation.
- A demonstrated ability to lead and develop high‑performing teams, including senior staff.
- Experience working across the full project lifecycle from pre‑construction to handover.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, project controls, and planning tools.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior and director levels.
- Experience managing complex, M&E‑heavy or technically challenging projects is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present, report and engage across a range of audiences.
- Ability to manage priorities, make decisions, and operate with a high level of autonomy.
- A collaborative leadership style, with a focus on openness, accountability and team development.
