Wessex Water is a heavily regulated environment working with waste and water supply, and we need someone to audit compliance with the water supply requirements. Are you a scientist looking to do something different with your career and understand the drinking water quality requirements in detail? If so, we have an exciting and unique opportunity for you to join our Internal Audit as a Regulatory Auditor! We welcome applicants across a range of experience levels, as training will be provided for the right candidate.

What you’ll do

  • You will work closely with our Group Audit Director and employees across the company, at all levels, including operational teams, which will involve site visits.
  • In this position, you will plan and perform independent compliance-based audits, recommending and following up actions with a specialism in one or all of water production and distribution, drinking water quality, the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations, Water Fittings Regulations, Drinking Water Inspectorate, or World Health Organisation industry guidance and best practice.
  • You will contribute to the wider role of the department and the company by undertaking the approved internal audit programme for water supply and water quality, and report results of audits to senior management and the Risk and Compliance Group for supply, ensuring that any improvements are completed.
  • You will ensure your audits meet budgets, timescales and quality standards.
  • You will apply professional auditing principles to assess risk, controls, and governance and analyse causes and efficiency.
  • You will then develop, assess and agree on viable solutions.

What you’ll need

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in a science-related area.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant water supply and quality regulations, industry guidance and best practice.
  • A minimum of five years post-degree experience in Water Supply/Environmental Permitting/Wastewater, and general waste.
  • An understanding and experience of auditing, compliance and internal control within the water industry.
  • Knowledge and understanding of water treatment and distribution processes, water quality and their associated risks.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to analyse data, see trends, identify gaps and non-conformances.
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to articulate audit findings and matters of non-compliance, including to senior management.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Good PC literacy, including Word and Excel.
