YTL Construction UK is seeking a Principal Mechanical Duty Holder to provide leadership, governance, and assurance for mechanical safety across our construction projects.
This is a senior technical leadership role, supporting the safe delivery of complex infrastructure projects whilemaintainingthe highest standards of compliance and operational safety.
What You'll Do
Acting as the company's appointed Mechanical Duty Holder, you willbe responsible for Mechanical Safety Rules, safe systems of work, competency standards, and permit-to-work arrangements, ensuring mechanical risks are effectively managed throughout construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
You'llmainly
- own and maintain the company's Mechanical Safety Rules, safe systems of work, and Mechanical Permit-to-Work system
- define and oversee competency requirements for personnel, contractors, and specialist service providers undertaking mechanical activities
- establish and assure safe systems of work for mechanical isolation, depressurisation, restraint, and control of stored energy
- provide technical governance for construction-phase mechanical systems, including pipework, pressure systems, rotating equipment, valves, and mechanical assemblies
- ensure effective management of interfaces between mechanical and electrical systems in collaboration with the Electrical Duty Holder
- lead investigations into mechanical incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, ensuring effective corrective and preventative actions are implemented
- support audits, inspections, regulatory engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives
- provide expert input into construction methodologies, lifting plans, commissioning strategies, temporary works, and design reviews
- support the safe and compliant handover of mechanical systems to asset owners
- provide governance of YTL Construction's IMech E Professional Development Scheme, supporting the development of future engineering talent and professional registration.
- What You'll Need
It is essential that you have
- a Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a recognised professional institution such as IMech E
- significant experience managing mechanical systems within construction, infrastructure, utilities, or major project environments
- a proven track record in mechanical safety leadership during construction and commissioning activities
- strong knowledge of mechanical safe systems of work, isolation processes, and control of stored energy
- experience developing and implementing mechanical safety rules, procedures, and permit-to-work systems
- experience assessing, approving, and assuring the competence of mechanical personnel and contractors
- excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
It would be desirable for you to have
- NEBOSH Health & Safety qualification
- experience of complex commissioning programmes, temporary works, or other high-risk mechanical activities
- knowledge of pressure systems, lifting operations, and major infrastructure project delivery.
