YTL Construction UK is embarking on its most ambitious capital delivery programme to date, and we're looking for a Principal Hydraulic Engineer with extensive wastewater sector experience to join our Civil Engineering team. Reporting directly to our Civils Team Lead, you will lead on projects throughout their full lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design. You will be responsible for managing the programme and ensuring the high quality of outputs of the HADES modelling team. This involves liaison with both internal colleagues and external partner consultants.
What you'll do
- You will be a technical expert on the principles of hydraulic design and their application in wastewater treatment, using HADES modelling software.
- You will be responsible for managing the HADES modelling outputs of the YTL Construction UK HADES team. This will cover quality assurance checks, accurate and cost‑effective modelling to meet a challenging design programme.
- You will review and approve technical reports, designs and drawings for hydraulic accuracy.
- Help define and troubleshoot the basis of design direction by proactively suggesting pragmatic engineering solutions through assessment of historic asset and flow data.
- Be an advanced user of Microsoft Excel for developing solution assessment tools and collating and analysing telemetry data.
- Contribute to the overall strategic technical direction of our HADES modelling team, including contributions to the strategic programmes of water companies, including Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans and Price Reviews.
- Provide expert technical guidance and mentoring to support colleagues’ development.
- Liaise with partner design consultants to review and assess the viability of their hydraulic solutions.
- Attend design review meetings to explain solutions and address any challenges or risks.

- Experience working in a hydraulic design engineering role with a track record of providing quality process outputs and supporting more junior team members.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, along with good verbal and written communication.
- A master’s degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
- Chartered professional status of an appropriate institution.
- Extensive wastewater design experience with a proven track record of managing a successful team.
