3 month contract (inside IR35) in Poole, £50-£55PH. I am currently partnering with a market-leading global mobility and infrastructure business based in Poole to recruit a System Test Engineer. Our client specialises in on-board mobile communications for the rail sector, supplying GSM-R cab and data radios with GPS and LTE connectivity to operators worldwide. They are currently leading the way in developing the next generation of 4G and 5G rail communications, making this a fantastic opportunity to work at the forefront of a major technological shift.

Reporting directly to the Test Engineering Manager, you will take day-to-day ownership of testing for complex, multidisciplinary projects. You will be involved across all phases of the testing lifecycle, from initial test case design right through to customer-witnessed functional acceptance testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Test Delivery: Plan, coordinate, and deliver system test engineering activities aligned with time, cost, quality, and performance targets.
  • Test Documentation: Produce test strategy-aligned procedures, write comprehensive test cases, specifications, and test scripts.
  • System Integration: Conduct end-to-end system integration testing for complex, multi-component systems.
  • Defect & Root Cause Analysis: Collaborate directly with software developers to isolate, report, and resolve root causes of technical issues.
  • Progress Reporting & Estimations: Regularly communicate test metrics, progress, bug reports, and task estimations to the test leadership team.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven track record as a Software or System Test Engineer (experience within an engineering or hardware-software integration domain is ideal).
  • System Integration: Strong understanding and hands-on experience in system integration testing throughout the complete software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Tooling: Proficient with ALM management tools (experience with DOORS is a distinct advantage).
  • Core Skills: Excellent analytical, diagnostic, and time-management skills, with a proven ability to prioritize tasks against critical project milestones.
  • Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills to write technical documentation and present test findings effectively.
