About the Role
My client are developing advanced assurance software to ensure complex, automated systems operate safely and reliably in high-stakes environments. They are seeking a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer with a deep background in safety-critical software development. In this role, you will help design, build, and verify the core software foundations responsible for continuous monitoring, fail-safe logic, and high-integrity system control. If you specialise in building software where failure is not an option, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety-Critical Development: Design, write, and verify high-integrity embedded software for complex operational platforms.
- System Safeguards: Build real-time monitoring functions, fail-safe architectures, and runtime assurance mechanisms.
- High-Assurance Architecture: Contribute to software designs built specifically to pass rigorous compliance and audit standards.
- Verification & Validation: Execute comprehensive testing, formal safety analyses, and verification activities to mathematically prove software correctness.
- Core Integration: Ensure seamless integration between primary control hardware, executive compute nodes, and safety oversight functions.
Must-Have Experience
- Safety-Critical Background: Extensive hands-on experience in software engineering for high-consequence or regulated environments.
- Embedded & Real-Time Systems: Strong understanding of embedded systems architecture, real-time operating constraints, and hardware-software interaction.
- Rigorous Engineering Standards: Practical knowledge of high-integrity development lifecycles and strict software safety processes.
- Systems Languages: Proficiency in low-level, high-reliability languages (e.g., C, C++, Ada, or formal verification languages).
Desirable Experience
- Experience with formal methods or mathematically verifiable software frameworks.
- Exposure to high-level system safety standards across any regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, energy, transportation, industrial automation, robotics).
- Background in developing continuous safety monitoring or fail-safe override systems.
- Familiarity with model-based system engineering.
