YT Technologies is partnering with a market-leading specialist engineering firm providing mission-critical technology for the global transport and infrastructure sectors. We are searching for an experienced Senior Rust Developer to join their close-knit, highly collaborative R&D team of 8 engineering professionals. This is a pure systems-level engineering role focused entirely on writing performance-critical software directly for embedded devices, not servers. If you are looking for an autonomous environment where you can solve complex technical challenges using Rust’s memory safety and concurrency features, this is your next project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Develop: Build and maintain high-performance, safe, and maintainable systems software using Rust.
  • Architecture & Collaboration: Collaborate with team members on architectural decisions, own features end-to-end from design through to deployment, and participate in code reviews.
  • Performance Optimisation: Debug and optimise systems for performance, memory usage, concurrent programming, and maximum reliability.
  • Hardware Integration: Interface software with custom low-level platforms, handling protocols for connected fleet and transit gateways.
  • Process & Documentation: Participate actively in agile development processes, manage your own workload, and contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing.

Essential Requirements

  • Commercial Track Record: A minimum of 2+ years of commercial software development experience, with demonstrable experience deploying Rust in production environments.
  • Systems Programming Foundations: Strong background in Rust, or an expert-level background in C/C++ development paired with strong, demonstrable Rust competence.
  • Low-Level Mastery: Deep comfort with systems programming concepts—specifically memory management, multi-threading, threading, and concurrency.
  • Rust Specifics: Exceptionally proficient in Rust’s ownership model, borrowing mechanisms, and lifetimes.
  • Ecosystem Familiarity: Comfortable operating within Linux/Unix development environments, utilizing version control (Git), and engaging with modern CI/CD practices.
  • Testing & Quality: Proven experience working with testing frameworks and writing long-term maintainable code.

How to prepare for a job interview at YT Technologies

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If YT Technologies uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
