Required for September 2026, this is an opportunity to train as a secondary teacher through the FULLY FUNDED PGCE at the Open University (2-year programme). Fixed Term Contract until 31/08/2028.
Salary Scale: Unqualified Teacher Scale Point 1-2 (£22,685- £25,322 per annum)
The school offers a special opportunity to an individual through a PGCE partnership program which is fully funded by the Welsh Government through the provision of the Open University. The successful candidate will teach through the medium of Welsh. The school is fully committed to supporting the Welsh Government's campaign to increase the number of Welsh speakers in Wales.
The program is aimed at graduates who want to change careers or have experience of working in an environment with children and young people. This may include teaching assistants and learning coaches who wish to progress in their career as well as youth officers. Applications from candidates who are in their final year at university are also welcome.
This is a particularly exciting time to join Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy, as the successful candidate would have the opportunity to train with experienced and innovative staff in a field of learning that is at the forefront in relation to Curriculum for Wales and in creating inspiring resources. The holder of this position will receive full support from the school and its people as they develop into a confident, innovative and creative educator.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM
Entry requirements for the Open University PGCE pathway which is fully funded by the Welsh Government:
- A standard equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above in Mathematics or Mathematics-Numeracy
- A standard equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above in either English Language or Welsh First Language
- A full UK honours degree (or equivalent). You must have a degree with at least 50% relevance to the subject if you want to teach to become a secondary school teacher (learners aged 12-16). For those candidates applying for a Welsh subject, your degree does not necessarily have to be in this field if you can show that you use the language fluently, because consideration may be given depending on the depth of your knowledge.
Applicants need to be available to commit to a full-time contract (not term-time only) until the end of the program in August 2027 and will be required to be based at the school from Monday to Friday.

The ability to teach through the medium of Welsh is essential for this post.
