Part-Time Financial Controller — Lancaster | Onsite | 3 days per week | £35 per hour | Self-Employed

About The Role: We are looking to onboard an experienced and commercially astute Financial Controller to support a £20m turnover business based in Lancaster. This is a hands-on, on-site role initially for 3 days per week, ideal for an experienced Financial Controller who enjoys working closely with the leadership team to bring clarity to the numbers, strengthen financial control, and support better commercial decision-making. The business is using Xero and is looking for someone who can quickly get to grips with the financials, produce strong and meaningful management information, and implement robust, fit-for-purpose financial controls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day finance function
  • Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts
  • Provide clear financial visibility, insight, and commentary to senior stakeholders
  • Improve the quality of management information to support commercial decision-making
  • Cashflow management, forecasting, and profitability analysis
  • Review, assess, and implement robust financial controls and processes
  • Ensure balance sheet integrity through regular reconciliations
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Act as a trusted commercial partner to the leadership team

About You

You’ll be an experienced Financial Controller with a strong background in SME or owner-managed businesses, comfortable working on-site and getting involved where needed. You’ll be confident explaining financial information to non-financial stakeholders and proactive in improving both reporting and controls.

Experience & Skills Required

  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller within a growing business
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero
  • Experience producing high-quality management accounts and MI
  • Strong commercial awareness and analytical skills
  • Experience implementing and improving financial controls
  • Cashflow forecasting and financial planning experience
  • Strong Excel skills (including pivots, SUMIFS, and charts)
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership

Qualifications

Fully qualified: ACCA / CIMA / ACA / ACMA / FCCA / ICAEW, or QBE with significant Financial Controller experience
