We are supporting a growing construction business in the Chelmsford area seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller for 2 days per week. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong project accounting experience, particularly within construction or engineering environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and management of Work in Progress (WIP) calculations and reporting
- Overseeing project accounting and supporting operational teams with financial insight
- Production of monthly management information (MI)
- Cashflow management, forecasting, and budgeting
- Providing clear financial visibility and actionable insights to business owners
- Supporting business restructuring initiatives
- Reviewing and improving payroll processes, including opportunities for automation (Sage 50 environment)
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Financial Controller (or similar senior finance role)
- Strong background in construction or engineering sectors
- Solid understanding of WIP and project-based accounting
- Experience using Sage 50
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, SME environment
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
- At least 2 years of UK-based experience as a Financial Controller
Additional Information
- This is a self-employed role, offering flexibility to work alongside other engagements
- Must be able to commit to 2 days per week onsite with the client (CM6, Dunmow area)
