- Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and young people with ASD, complex needs and behaviours that challenge.
- Deliver structured, outcome-focused one-to-one support across home, education, community and YPR settings.
- Understand each young person’s communication style, sensory needs, routines, strengths, triggers and individual support requirements.
- Support young people with emotional regulation, transitions, boundaries, anxiety and behaviours such as aggression, refusal, absconding, impulsivity and emotional distress.
- Use positive, proactive, least-restrictive and de-escalation approaches to reduce risk and promote safety.
- Follow Behaviour Support Plans, Risk Assessments, Intervention Plans and agreed strategies consistently.
- Support young people to build confidence, independence, communication, social skills, positive routines and greater engagement in education and community activities.
- Plan purposeful sessions and adapt support in response to the young person’s presentation, progress and changing needs.
- Complete accurate and timely case records, assessments, contact logs, incident reports, reviews and outcome reports.
- Identify safeguarding concerns, changes in behaviour or increased risk and elevate these promptly in line with YPR procedures.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, social workers, schools, healthcare professionals and other agencies involved in the young person’s support.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality and a calm, consistent approach in challenging or unpredictable situations.
- Take ownership of allocated cases and agreed actions while recognising when management support or further assessment is required.
- Participate in supervision, training, team meetings and ongoing professional development.
- Work flexibly according to the needs of young people, including some evenings and weekends.
