YouView creates software for set-top boxes, streaming pucks, and smart TVs to deliver a TV experience users love. YouView’s TV experience is powered by our reliable, resilient, and secure cloud backend, and our unique firmware allows us to control media playback, security and lower-level components. Our platform delivers variety and convenience by combining on-demand with live TV through an integrated editorial lens, so our users get the best rich, relevant TV content across both free and pay services.
About the Role
The Editorial Content Manager is a new role in our Product Management team, responsible for owning and evolving the editorial strategy for content discovery across YouView platforms and channels. Using your passion for TV and collaborating closely with our content partners, you will shape how content is curated, to create a more engaging and distinctive viewing experience. You will balance partner promotional priorities with user needs and broader business priorities, ensuring content is surfaced in a way that serves both audiences and the platform. The role also includes supporting the day-to-day management of our company website and social media channels.
Responsibilities
- On our TV User Interface (70%)
- Shape the editorial content recommendations strategy alongside Product and Design teams across different products in collaboration with our key customers.
- Curate and promote linear and On Demand content across different platforms, balancing editorial judgment, Public Service Broadcasters (PSBs) requirements, key customer business priorities and data insights.
- Work collaboratively with the PSBs, content partners and customers to understand their requirements and ensuring promotional priorities are delivered effectively and in line with our broader mission.
- Translate editorial decisions into live user experiences by curating and publishing content via CMS tools.
- Create unique editorial recommendations concepts and content collections using creatively a range of innovative features (rails, branded banners etc), in both strictly promotional contexts and more flexible creative editorial areas.
- Continuously evaluate editorial promotions and creative recommendations effectiveness, using data analysis, reporting, and experimentation to refine and evolve the editorial approach.
- Showcase the value and effectiveness of editorial recommendations to key stakeholders, Content partners, PSBs and customers using data insights.
- Ensure all published content adheres to regulatory guidelines and maintains a high standard of editorial quality and accuracy.
- Identify opportunities to expand editorial influence over time, working closely with Product and Design to evolve how content is surfaced and discovered in a way that benefits both audiences and partners.
- Manage the day-to-day running of the company website, making content changes (such as product updates) using our CMS (Webflow) when required by internal customers.
- Manage website upgrades when needed and monitor and report on data analytics.
- Manage the website mailbox, responding appropriately to enquiries.
- Curate and publish our bi-monthly company newsletter.
- Work with our Content Operations team to support the Product Certification process for on-boarding new apps.
- Understand the wider area of our Content Operations team, ultimately to have the ability to provide occasional emergency or holiday cover.
- Liaise with the People and Culture Team to ensure the website, social media and internal comms channels promote YouView as a great place to work and attracts our future talent.
- Work with our tech leaders to ensure compliance in relation to our publishing of open source software.
Essential skills and experience
- Experience using content management systems (2+ years), with the ability to quickly adapt to new tools and platforms.
- Strong editorial judgment and content sensibility, with the ability to identify what will resonate with audiences.
- Confident working with data analytics and reporting to inform decisions and measure performance.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence both stakeholders and customers.
- High attention to detail – your work will be visible to millions of households so has to be accurate.
- A real passion for TV, with an emphasis on PSB content.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in media or broadcasting environment.
- JavaScript, Webflow, HTML, CSS etc.
- Copywriting.
