YouView has proudly collaborated with Everyone TV to introduce Freely, a ground-breaking streaming service that is set to revolutionise free TV in the UK. Launched in April 2024, Freely offers users a seamless experience by providing a single access point to stream live and on-demand content from all major UK broadcasters, eliminating the hassle of app-switching. We are thrilled to serve as the technology partner to ETV in bringing to market a TV experience that will enable millions of UK households to discover and enjoy the best of free TV on the next generation of leading Smart TVs.
The Role YouView is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Associate Software Engineer to join our growing team. You’ll play a key role in helping ensure the quality of a product used by millions of users. In this role, you’ll learn how to design and execute tests, work closely with experienced engineers, and gradually develop skills in automation, exploratory testing, and quality best practices. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career to gain real-world experience in a supportive engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities- Testing and Quality Assurance
- Help develop and maintain automated full‑system tests using Python, with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Use AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT to accelerate learning and productivity (training and support provided).
- Run manual and exploratory tests to help validate functionality across UI, middleware, and backend services.
- Support the analysis of test results and raise issues clearly and accurately.
- Work with product owners and developers to understand requirements and testing needs.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to planning discussions.
- Document defects in Jira and collaborate with developers to support resolution.
- Learn to work with version control tools (e.g., Git).
- Assist with the setup, monitoring, and upkeep of test environments.
- Build a strong foundation in automated testing, debugging, and QA best practices.
- Work towards becoming an independent and effective software test engineer.
- Stay curious and proactive in growing your technical testing skills.
- Programming: Experience in Python
- Understanding of Testing Fundamentals: Familiarity with software testing concepts (unit, functional, regression testing).
- Version Control: Experience with Git or other similar tools.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to troubleshoot problems logically.
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication.
- Eagerness to Learn: A proactive mindset and willingness to develop new technical skills.
- Data and Analytics: Exposure to SQL and modern analytics dashboards, including Kibana.
- Cloud Services: Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS)
- Tools: Exposure to tools such as Selenium, Playwright, or Docker is a bonus, but not required.
- Previous internship or project experience in software testing or development.
