The Youth Work Service in Dumfries and Galloway are offering an exciting opportunity for a Youth Development or Community Worker who has significant experience in working with young people to join an innovative and award-winning youth work team to lead the delivery of Youth Work Services within the Oasis Youth Centre and wider Dumfries area of Dumfries & Galloway with this permanent post.

The post is a rare opportunity for the right person to get involved in a leadership role within Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Youth Work Service. This post is open to those with a degree level qualification in Youth Work or Community Learning & Development (or equivalent) but we also welcome applications from those without the degree but have at least 3 years experience in Youth Work. Applicants must have significant experience in working with young people and be comfortable working within community settings with our most vulnerable young people, managing a range of projects at the same time and working in a fast paced environment.

The key responsibilities of the post include:

  • The Oasis Youth Centre is a large dedicated Youth Centre providing services 6 days per week for young people ranging from young parent groups, lunch clubs, groups for young people with Additional Support Needs and Disabilities, music, arts work and issue based groups. You will also have responsibility for our wider work in Dumfries including our wider achievement work within our Secondary Schools.
  • This post is will lead the Youth Work delivery within the Oasis Youth Centre and help further develop our work within the Youth Centre and support even more young people within the Dumfries area- you will have full management responsibility for the Youth Centre, the staff and volunteers and have the freedom to put in place, alongside young people, a creative programme of activities for young people but this is also a direct delivery role working within youth groups and we are looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to lead the regions main youth centre and have it full of young people every day and someone who is willing to get involved in direct delivery of services.
  • You should be motivated and interested in working with young people aged 12+ and have significant experience in youth work or community work and be comfortable working within community settings with our most vulnerable young people and managing a team of part time Youth Workers and volunteers.

Salary:

Band 8 – £35,535 to £38,031 (Unqualified) or Band 9 – £39,102 to £41,973 (Qualified) – To be appointed at Band 9, you must be qualified to degree level in Youth Work or Community Learning & Development, or a degree recognised by the CLD Standards Council. We would also welcome applications from individuals who do not have this Degree but have at least 3 years of experience working in Youth Work to be appointed at Band 8.
