Youth Mentor to be that steady, trusted presence: someone with a genuine passion for young people, the creativity to think outside the box, and the resilience to keep showing up when things get hard.
This isn't a desk job, and it isn't one-size-fits-all.
You'll be out in the community, building real relationships, guiding a caseload of young people through the moments that matter most and helping shape the mentors coming up behind you.
What you'll do
- Build trusting, consistent relationships with vulnerable young people across Havering and Epping
- Deliver one-to-one, and group work, meeting each young person exactly where they are
- Help young people set goals, build confidence and break through the barriers in their way
- Think creatively to reach young people others find hard to engage
- Coach and develop junior mentors and volunteers, raising the standard across the team
- Work alongside families, schools and local partners to wrap support around each young person
- Keep accurate, confidential data and records, using our case management system to log your work and contribute to reviews and reporting
- Champion safeguarding in everything you do
What we're looking for
- A genuine passion for working with young people the one thing we can't teach
- The creativity to think outside the box and find what works for each individual
- Experience of supporting vulnerable young people, with a trauma-informed approach
- Warmth, resilience and sound judgement under pressure
- Strong communication and the independence to manage your own time across sites
- Computer literate and confident using Microsoft Word, Excel and case management systems to keep accurate data and records
- A commitment to safeguarding and equal opportunities
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle — essential, as you'll travel regularly between Havering and Epping
- A relevant qualification (e. g. Level 3 in Youth Work) is welcome, but attitude and experience matter most
