YHA The Sill at Hadrian's Wall is located a stone's throw from the nearly 2000 year old Hadrian's Wall, with stunning views and historical landmarks spread through the entire area.

As a Duty Manager you'll support the Hostel and Deputy Manager with the day-to-day management of the hostel. You'll create a great place for our teams to work and ensure our guests have an exceptional experience at this exceptional hostel. With wide ranging duties, from housekeeping, catering, welcoming guests and liaising with YHA's internal teams and locally, this role is hands-on and perfect for a dynamic individual looking to dive into the role.

What will you be doing as a Duty Manager?

We are a friendly team and will provide the training required for you to undertake the role. Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

  • Using our systems for efficient guest check-ins and check-outs, food and beverage sales and service and other management functions.
  • Carrying out housekeeping duties, ensuring a comfortable, clean environment for all visitors.
  • Assisting in the preparation of food and serving food and drinks with genuine warmth, hospitality, and pride that will influence in more sales.
  • Deputising for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the daily hostel operation in their absence.

What Skills and Experience do you need to be a Duty Manager?

Our Duty Managers are responsible for the line management of the teams within their own hostels, along with the management of occasional volunteers. To provide this service we are looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience in hospitality or customer service, including the management and delivery of a quality service
  • Food safety level 2 and APLH level 2 qualifications (desirable)
  • Basic IT skills (ideally Microsoft Office) - able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
