Are you looking for a fun and varied job in hospitality management? YHA Helvellyn are looking for a Duty Manager to support the Hostel Manager!
YHA Helvellyn is located 963ft above sea level on the approach to one of the Lake District’s highest and most exciting fells; Helvellyn.
In the summer we have lots of hiking, biking and paddling enthusiasts coming through our doors to experience the beauty of Ullswater or tackle the infamous Striding Edge ridge walk‑one of the best mountain experiences to be had on the Lakeland Fells!
The hostel is in a remote location, just outside of the village of Glenridding, but has easy access to both Ullswater and the surrounding fells.
Responsibilities
- Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Using our systems for efficient guest check‑ins and check‑outs, food and beverage sales and service and other management functions.
- Carrying out housekeeping duties, ensuring a comfortable, clean environment for all visitors.
- Assisting in the preparation of food and serving food and drinks with genuine warmth, hospitality, and pride that will influence more sales.
- Deputising for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the daily hostel operation in their absence.
Qualifications
- Experience of working face‑to‑face with customers.
- Experience in hospitality or customer service, including the management and delivery of a quality service.
- Experience of managing a team – experience of leading others, providing guidance to members of your team (desirable).
- Food safety level 2 and APLH level 2 qualifications (desirable).
- Ability to manage varying pressures, including peaks in workload demands – can prioritise, able to deal with conflicting duties.
- Basic IT skills (ideally Microsoft Office) – able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel.
- Knowledge and understanding of the core purpose of YHA – what YHA does and how we do it.
