Temporary - Caretaker in South Croydon with occasional travel to Redhill. £14.09 per hour. Full-Time | Monday to Friday | Rotating Shifts | ASAP Start – 6 weeks initially.
Shift patterns are completed on a rota basis and currently include: 07:00 - 15:00 / 08:00 - 16:00 / 10:00 - 18:00 / 14:00 - 22:00.
Please note: Ideally, you will hold a DBS on the Update Service. If not, a DBS check will be required prior to starting.
Role Overview: The Caretaker is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, clean, and welcoming environment across the site. Working as part of the facilities team, the successful candidate will support the day-to-day operation of the premises through a combination of maintenance, security, porterage, and customer service duties. This is a varied, hands-on role requiring a proactive approach, flexibility, and the ability to respond to changing priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out opening and closing duties in line with the shift rota.
- Assist with the general upkeep of buildings and outdoor areas.
- Undertake routine and reactive maintenance tasks.
- Complete basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and decorating work.
- Identify and report maintenance issues requiring specialist attention.
- Inspect and maintain fixtures, fittings, and communal areas.
- Set up and clear rooms for meetings, events, and activities.
- Move furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies as required.
- Collect, distribute, and process incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries.
- Monitor stock levels and replenish supplies where necessary.
- Provide a professional and helpful service to staff, visitors, and contractors.
- Ensure the site remains secure and compliant with health and safety requirements.
- Report hazards, incidents, and security concerns promptly.
- Assist with first aid duties on a rota basis (training can be provided).
- Provide support and cover for colleagues when required.
Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience in a Caretaker, Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Operative, Porter, or similar role.
- Experience working within a busy and fast-paced environment.
- Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.
- Strong communication and customer service abilities.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A sound understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- A full UK driving licence (desirable).
- First Aid certification (desirable, or willingness to undertake training).
