About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Accountant / Practice Manager to join a well-established accountancy practice based in Caterham. This role is ideal for a motivated, qualified (or part-qualified) professional who thrives in a busy practice environment and enjoys a blend of hands-on client work and team leadership. The successful candidate will oversee a portfolio of owner-managed businesses while leading a small team of accountants, ensuring the smooth running of daily operations and maintaining exceptional standards of client service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Practice & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and review a team of 4–5 remote staff, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards.
- Oversee daily operations, promoting efficiency, compliance, and best practices within the department.
- Assist with financial reporting and performance analysis, providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Stay up to date with UK tax regulations, FRS102(1a), FRS105, and other relevant standards, sharing knowledge across the team.
- Client Portfolio Management & Compliance
- Manage a portfolio of owner-managed business clients, preparing and reviewing statutory accounts from trial balance onwards.
- Oversee Corporation Tax, Personal Tax, and P11d submissions in collaboration with the wider tax team.
- Manage the delivery of practice services including management accounts, VAT, CIS, payroll, and bookkeeping.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, providing professional advice and maintaining long-term relationships.
About You:
Qualifications: ACCA/CA qualified or part-qualified with extensive practice experience (minimum 3–5 years post qualification, or 6+ years if part-qualified).
Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of UK tax and accounting standards, including VAT and general compliance.
Software Proficiency: Confident using Xero, Sage Line 50, FreeAgent, QuickBooks, Taxcalc, Iris, and other cloud-based accounting tools. Experience with data migration (e.g. Sage to Xero) is desirable.
Leadership: Excellent leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to manage and develop junior team members.
Organisation: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and detail-focused approach.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building strong client relationships.
