The Deputy Manager supports the Registered Manager in running a children’s residential home, leading staff, ensuring safeguarding, and delivering high-quality care. They deputise in the Manager’s absence and help maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and deputise for the Registered Manager
  • Lead shifts and supervise staff
  • Ensure safeguarding and compliance with regulations and Ofsted standards
  • Oversee care planning, records, and documentation
  • Support staff development, supervision, and rota management
  • Work directly with children and young people when required
  • Liaise with families and external professionals
  • Manage incidents, safeguarding concerns, and complaints
  • Ensure health, safety, and property standards are maintained
  • Participate in on-call duties and flexible working

Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in a senior role in children’s residential care
  • Experience with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and crisis management skills
  • Safeguarding knowledge and commitment
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work flexibly, including on-call

Desirable

  • Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification (or working towards)
  • 2+ years residential childcare experience
