This is a varied technical role combining network support, systems engineering, customer projects and hands-on implementation.
You will work as part of a specialist engineering team, helping to design, build, test, install and support customer networks across both remote sites and HQ environments.
The role would suit someone with a strong grounding in TCP/IP networking and data communications, who enjoys troubleshooting complex technical issues and getting involved in projects from initial requirements through to implementation and ongoing support.
The role…
- You will be involved in a broad range of Enterprise Engineering activities, including:
- Supporting and maintaining customer networks and communications solutions.
- Investigating and resolving escalated engineering and service issues.
- Providing technical analysis and ensuring issues are followed through to resolution.
- Supporting the build, implementation, testing, commissioning and installation of customer networks.
- Working on both HQ-based and remote-site customer projects.
- Creating and maintaining accurate technical and project documentation.
- Supporting the evaluation and introduction of new products, applications and services.
- Mobilising at short notice to survey, install or configure customer networks where required.
- Working with internal teams, customers and suppliers to deliver effective technical solutions.
- Supporting solutions incorporating Vo IP, email services, file replication, hotspot solutions, software distribution, web filtering, firewalling, virtualisation, high availability and video services.
- Keeping up to date with developments across IT and communications technology.
- Potentially participating in an Enterprise Support Engineer shift rota.
You will need to be comfortable managing your own workload, balancing competing priorities and working to agreed project timescales, while maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach.
About you…
We are looking for someone with a solid technical background in IT, networking, telecommunications or data communications, who can demonstrate strong troubleshooting and engineering skills.
Essential requirements
- A degree (2:1) or HND/HNC in IT, Electronics, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Good knowledge of TCP/IP networking; including routing, switching and firewalling.
- Experience with Layer 7 firewalls.
- The ability to diagnose complex technical faults, document findings and communicate corrective actions clearly.
- Good experience with digital satellite communications and/or IT systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive, flexible and professional approach.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
- Good customer and supplier communication skills.
- Cisco and/or Microsoft qualifications would be beneficial.
Desirable experience
- It would be great if you also have experience with some of the following:
- Project planning and technical project delivery.
- Linux and/or Windows Server operating systems.
- Asterisk and Vo IP platforms.
- Perl or Bash programming/scripting.
- Hardware and software systems development and design.
- Satellite communications or maritime communications.
- Network design and implementation across remote or challenging environments.
About you…
This is a role where no two days are necessarily the same.
You will need to be comfortable moving between customer support, technical troubleshooting, project work and hands-on engineering.
The successful candidate will have a genuine can-do attitude, strong engineering judgement and the ability to remain calm and organised when priorities change or technical issues need resolving to tight deadlines.
If you enjoy getting to the bottom of complex technical problems, working with customers and being part of a specialist engineering team, this could be a great opportunity to develop your career within a technically interesting environment.
