The Role

We're recruiting for a Residential Support Worker to join a children's residential home, providing practical and emotional support to young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties. This is a hands-on, rewarding role where no two days are the same and the impact you make is real. You'll be part of a small, close-knit team working together to create a safe, caring and homely environment where children and young people are supported to grow, develop and thrive.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Working directly with young people across all aspects of daily life, including:
    • Supporting personal care, daily living skills, and routines
    • Organising and supervising recreational and leisure activities, both in and out of the home
    • Supporting attendance at education and, where needed, providing transport
    • Acting as keyworker for specific young people, leading on care planning and reviews
    • Administering medication when trained and authorised to do so
    • Maintaining accurate records and handover documentation
    • Building positive relationships with young people, families, social workers and external professionals
    • Upholding safeguarding at all times and working in line with relevant policies and legislation
    • Contributing to a positive, safe home environment including cooking, household tasks and health and safety monitoring

What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise effectively
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • A team player with a calm, consistent approach
  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant field or genuine willingness to work towards one
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with emotional or behavioural difficulties
  • Experience managing challenging behaviour
  • Good written skills for record keeping and documentation
  • Flexibility around shift patterns
  • Solid IT skills
