Based in Reading
£55,000 – £65,000
37.5 hours Flexible working 1–2 days hybrid
You’ve done the shifts. You’ve supported the team. You’ve held the home together when things got tough. Now you’re ready for more. We’re working with a growing children’s residential provider who are opening a brand-new home in Reading and are looking for a Deputy Manager ready to step into a Registered Manager role. This isn’t about maintaining someone else’s service… This is about building your own.
The Opportunity
You’ll lead the setup, registration and launch of a new home supporting young people aged 8–16 with EBD and learning disabilities (LD). From day one, you’ll shape the culture, the team and the standards. This is your chance to create a home that genuinely feels like one.
Tasks What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the Ofsted registration and opening process
- Build and develop your own high-performing team
- Create a strong, embedded safeguarding culture
- Ensure care plans are lived, not just written
- Manage budgets and resources with confidence
- Build trusted relationships with social workers, families and professionals
- Drive standards that don’t just meet regulations… but exceed them
Requirements What We’re Looking For
- This role is perfect if you’re a Deputy Manager who’s ready but just hasn’t had the opportunity yet.
- At least 2 years’ experience in children’s residential care
- Supervisory or Deputy Manager experience
- Level 5 Diploma (or working towards – full support provided)
- Experience within EBD and/or LD settings
- Strong understanding of Ofsted & safeguarding
- The confidence to lead… and the resilience to grow
