The Role
We are recruiting a Deputy Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of a children’s residential home. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for an established Senior Support Worker or Deputy Manager looking to take the next step in their career. You will play a key role in creating a safe, nurturing, and structured environment where young people can thrive, while supporting and leading a committed staff team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager in the overall management and operation of the home.
- Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and line management to Senior and Support Workers.
- Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality care in line with care plans and relevant regulations.
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for young people.
- Deliver regular supervision, appraisals, and on-the-job support to staff.
- Support staff training, induction, and development plans.
- Assist with rota management to ensure appropriate staffing levels.
- Monitor staff performance and promote best practice.
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with Health & Safety, safeguarding, and regulatory requirements.
- Work collaboratively with families, professionals, and external agencies when required.
About You
We are looking for someone who is passionate about residential childcare and confident in leading by example. You will ideally have:
- Experience working in a children’s residential home.
- Experience of Ofsted inspection.
- Previous experience as a Deputy Manager or Senior Support Worker ready to progress.
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and understanding of children’s residential regulations.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading staff.
- A calm, resilient, and child-centred approach.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Qualifications
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – essential.
- Level 5 in Leadership & Management (or willingness to work towards) – desirable.
