The Residential Care Worker will provide high-quality care and support to children and young people, promoting their emotional, physical, educational and personal development. The role will involve acting as a positive role model, safeguarding children and young people, promoting independence and helping to create a safe, nurturing and supportive home environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualised care in line with each child’s care plan, risk assessment and safety plan.
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
- Support emotional, physical, educational and social development.
- Promote independence, confidence and positive relationships.
- Act as a positive role model and maintain professional boundaries.
- Support school attendance, homework, educational activities and appropriate leisure activities.
- Support family contact where required and in line with individual care plans.
- Encourage children and young people to participate in activities, events and experiences safely.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming home environment.
- Complete required health and safety checks and report any concerns.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, reports and daily documentation.

- Report safeguarding or welfare concerns to the Registered Manager or appropriate manager.
- Work effectively as part of the residential care team.
- Complete mandatory training and take responsibility for ongoing professional development.
Person Specification
Experience
- Previous experience working with children and young people in social care, education or similar settings is desirable but not essential, as training is provided.
- Experience supporting children and young people with challenging or complex behaviours is desirable.
- Understanding of safeguarding, child protection and managing sensitive situations is desirable.
Qualifications
- Willingness to undertake, actively work towards, or already hold a Level 4 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce.
- Commitment to completing the relevant qualification within two years where required.
