The client is a UK-based enterprise SaaS vendor serving the accounting and professional services market. The organisation is focused on modernising how mid-sized and enterprise accountancy firms operate by replacing disconnected, legacy applications with a single, cloud-based platform. The product is a fully integrated operating system that supports the commercial and operational lifecycle of an accountancy firm, including client acquisition, practice management, workflow, service delivery, compliance, and advisory services.
As the business scales within the enterprise segment, the client is seeking a Principal Solutions Architect to lead solution strategy, platform positioning, and customer-facing technical engagement across complex sales and transformation programmes.
The Principal Solutions Architect will own solution strategy across enterprise opportunities and strategic customer accounts. The role sits at the intersection of sales, product, and delivery, acting as the senior authority on how the platform is positioned, designed, and adopted by customers. Working closely with commercial leadership, the Principal Solutions Architect will guide prospective customers through large-scale platform replacement initiatives, helping them understand how to transition away from incumbent accounting, tax, and workflow systems. Beyond pre-sales, the role remains engaged through onboarding, data migration, and optimisation, ensuring solutions are delivered in a way that aligns with both customer outcomes and platform capability. The position also plays a key role in feeding customer insight back into product and delivery teams, including collaboration with offshore engineering functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Owning solution strategy across enterprise sales cycles and strategic customer engagements
- Partnering with sales leadership to shape value propositions and solution approaches for complex opportunities
- Leading platform demonstrations, workshops, and executive-level discussions with customers
- Designing and overseeing solution approaches for system consolidation, integration, and data migration
- Acting as a senior advisor to customers on operating model change and platform adoption
- Translating customer needs into clear solution requirements for product and delivery teams
- Influencing product roadmap priorities based on commercial and market demand
- Working closely with offshore product and engineering teams to ensure solutions are deliverable and scalable
- Building credibility with senior stakeholders, including partners, directors, and board-level leaders
- Ensuring consistent positioning of the platform as an enterprise-grade, secure, and scalable solution
Candidate Profile
The client is open to candidates who are currently, or have previously been:
- Principal Solutions Architects, Solutions Directors, or senior pre-sales leaders within a SaaS organisation
- Operating in enterprise or upper mid-market commercial environments
- Experienced in selling and delivering complex, business-critical platforms
- Comfortable leading customer-facing engagements with senior commercial and operational stakeholders
- Well-versed in SaaS onboarding, implementation, and system replacement programmes
- Experienced working with distributed or offshore product and engineering teams
Unsuitable Backgrounds
This role is not suited to individuals who:
- Are seeking a purely internal architecture or engineering leadership role
- Prefer minimal involvement in sales or customer engagement
- Focus primarily on hands‑on development rather than solution leadership
- Are uncomfortable operating in commercially driven environments
Location and Working Pattern
London-based role with hybrid working. Regular customer engagement as part of the role. Occasional international travel to support delivery and collaboration.
Compensation and Package
Base salary between £110,000 and £130,000. Significant additional compensation and incentives. Flexibility on base and total package depending on experience, skill set, and impact. Total remuneration expected to reach £150,000+.
Why This Role
Senior, high-impact architecture role with direct influence on enterprise revenue and customer success. Opportunity to shape how complex organisations adopt a next-generation SaaS platform. High visibility across sales, product, and delivery functions. Platform-led business replacing deeply embedded legacy technology.
