Histology Dissection Expert Biomedical Scientist – Oxford
Band 7 | £35+ per hour | Full time | Ongoing contract | Immediate start
We are looking for an experienced Histology Dissection Expert Biomedical Scientist to join a busy cellular pathology service in Oxford. This is a full-time, ongoing contract and a good fit for a senior dissector who wants to work at expert level in a well-established department.
The role
- Provide expert-level macroscopic dissection and specimen description, to a standard that supports accurate diagnosis
- Dissect a broad range of specimens, from biopsies through to complex resections, working within the relevant clinical guidelines and tissue pathways
- Make sound decisions on sampling, block selection and handling for each specimen
- Work closely with consultant histopathologists, and with colleagues across the laboratory
- Uphold laboratory quality, health and safety, and accreditation standards
- Where appropriate, support the training, supervision and competency assessment of junior staff
About you
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- Significant, proven experience in histological dissection, covering at least categories A–C
- Sound knowledge of cellular pathology practice, including working in an accredited laboratory
- Experience supervising or training other dissectors
- Experience of digital pathology or a modern LIMS
