Hours / Working Days: 37.5 hours per week / Monday to Thursday, 8am – 4.30pm, Friday’s 8am – 4.00pm.
Based: Office / Hospital.
Job Summary: The Estates Maintenance Multi‑Skilled Technician is a key member of the Estates maintenance Department, providing daytime operational support to ensure continuity of maintenance services. The post holder will undertake a wide range of reactive and planned maintenance tasks across mechanical, electrical, and building‑fabric disciplines, ensuring systems remain safe, compliant, and operational.
Key Result Areas
- Reactive Maintenance
- Respond to maintenance requests via Helpdesk.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and fabric faults.
- Ensure all works are completed safely and within SLA timeframes.
- Undertake temporary repairs where immediate permanent fix is not possible.
- Mechanical & Plumbing
- Maintain heating, hot/cold water systems, pumps, valves, and pipework.
- Carry out repairs and system reinstatement.
- Assist with plant maintenance including steam boilers and pressurisation systems.
- Electrical
- Diagnose and repair faults on lighting, power, and distribution systems.
- Replace fittings, switches, and components.
- Undertake safe isolations in line with HTM guidance.
- Building Fabric
- Carry out general repairs including doors, locks, ceilings, and finishes.
- Undertake minor joinery and fabric works.
- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Undertake routine PPM and compliance checks.
- Record all maintenance activity via CAFM/PDA systems.
- Support statutory compliance requirements.
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Monitor plant performance and alarms.
- Assist in maintaining environmental control systems.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications (Essential)
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering.
- Completed apprenticeship or equivalent training.
- Multi‑skilled capability across at least two disciplines.
Experience (Essential)
- Experience in reactive and planned maintenance.
- Fault finding across mechanical and/or electrical systems.
- Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
- Use of CAFM or electronic work‑order systems.
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving ability.
Knowledge of:
- HTMs.
- Health & Safety legislation.
Ability to work independently and manage workload. Good communication and IT skills. NHS or healthcare environment experience.
