Job Summary

The post holder will support the Head of Department and their team to ensure that the Specialist Assessment and Placements team’s work-streams are managed effectively through the Section 117 responsible commissioner pathways and out of area treatment services.

The postholder will have an understanding of the National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) & NHS Funded Nursing Care (FNC) and how these impact on Section 117 aftercare eligibility.

The postholder will be responsible for undertaking holistic assessments and reviews of Section 117 patient pathways, including Section 117 Personal Health Budgets (PHB), where the responsible commissioner is Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (KMICB).

Assist the Band 7 in order to ensure correct processes are followed in delivery of the Section 117 responsibilities and out of area treatment services.

Manage enquiries by various stakeholders in relation to Section 117 responsibilities and out of area treatment services, and provide detailed, informed verbal and written responses.

Must know when to raise safeguarding concerns and also to represent the department at Local Authority (LA) safeguarding meetings.

Ability to undertake assessments of capacity and coordinate/complete Best Interest Meetings as required.

Ensure accurate and open communication with a range of organisations and individuals.

Keep accurate review documentation and robust electronic records at all times.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse or Allied Health Professional with mental health experience.
  • Relevant graduate/diploma qualification, equivalent qualification or equivalent level of skill, knowledge, and experience.
  • Experience of working with people with mental health difficulties and Section 117 aftercare needs.
  • Further training or evidence of post registration clinical experience, in a variety of acute/community settings.
  • Experience of supporting change management processes and an ability to adapt to change.
  • Experience of evaluating mental and physical health needs.
  • Experience in communicating with a variety of stakeholders and service users.
  • A good understanding of the Mental Health Act, Section 117 aftercare, NHS England Responsible Commissioner guidance, National Framework for CHC, Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding policy and procedures; health and social care roles and responsibilities.
  • Clear communicator with excellent writing, report writing and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences.
  • Skills for communication on complex, sensitive and clinical matters and difficult situations, requiring persuasion and influence.
  • Skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre-empt and evaluate issues, and recommend an appropriate course of action to address the issues.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands.
  • Strategic thinking – ability to anticipate.
  • Attention to detail combined with the ability to extract key messages from complex analysis.
