A Consultant in Stroke Medicine is required to provide specialist clinical leadership and expert care across the full spectrum of acute and post-acute stroke services. The post-holder will manage hyperacute stroke admissions, lead multidisciplinary stroke care, support TIA and follow-up clinics, and contribute to service development, quality improvement and research.

Key Responsibilities
- Acute and Hyperacute Care
- Provide expert assessment and management of hyperacute stroke patients, including coordination of thrombolysis and thrombectomy pathways.
- Attend emergency stroke calls with the on-call stroke team and coordinate referrals and transfers for advanced interventions.
- Conduct inpatient reviews, including complex cases and patients in intensive care.
- Run TIA and Stroke outpatient clinics, ensuring continuity of care and appropriate follow-up.
- Manage administrative duties associated with outpatient and inpatient services.
- Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality stroke care pathways.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical staff to facilitate shared decision-making.
- Participate in defined weekend and on-call rotas to ensure continuous stroke cover.
- Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, audit and service planning.
- Support innovation and improvement within the stroke service and wider care pathways.
Person Specification
- Qualifications & Registration
- Medical degree and specialist qualification relevant to Stroke Medicine.
- Full professional registration with licence to practise.
- Entry on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT/CESR.
- Extensive experience in stroke medicine and general internal medicine practice.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex acute and hyperacute cases.
- Strong leadership capabilities and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
- Effective communication skills with patients, carers and clinical colleagues.
