Histology Biomedical Scientist – Specialist, Band 7
Locum Contract until December 2026 Initially | Edinburgh
We are seeking an experienced Band 7 Biomedical Scientist to join a busy Histology laboratory in Edinburgh on a locum basis until the end of the year initially.
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled histology specialist to bring their expertise to a well-equipped, fast-paced laboratory in Edinburgh on a locum basis. You will play a key role in supporting diagnostic turnaround times while maintaining the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing microtomy to a high standard, including core biopsies
- Undertaking IQC for immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology microtomy
- Operating and maintaining automated staining platforms, including Leica Bond III, Ventana Ultra, and Dako instruments
- Ensuring compliance with quality standards and laboratory accreditation requirements
- Supporting the wider histology team to meet service demands
Essential Skills & Experience
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- Proven experience in microtomy, including core specimens
- Strong working knowledge of IQC processes for IHC and molecular pathology
- Hands-on experience with Leica Bond III, Ventana Ultra, and Dako systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high-throughput environment
- Available to start at short notice (locum candidates preferred)
