Experienced PMLD Teacher Required
Your Teaching is currently working with a highly regarded specialist SEN school in SE15 seeking an experienced PMLD Teacher to join their dedicated team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in a supportive, well-resourced and welcoming school.
The school is keen to identify the right candidate early and is already arranging lesson observations, school visits and interviews. This gives successful applicants the opportunity to experience the school environment and ensure the role is the right fit ahead of the September start.
About the Role
- Plan and deliver engaging, highly differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with PMLD.
- Create a safe, nurturing and stimulating classroom environment where every pupil can achieve their full potential.
- Work closely with Teaching Assistants, therapists and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver personalised learning programmes.
- Support pupils with complex communication, sensory, physical and medical needs.
- Deliver learning in line with EHCP outcomes and monitor individual pupil progress.
- Use specialist communication strategies and sensory learning approaches to maximise engagement.
- Promote pupils' independence, confidence, communication and life skills.
- Build positive relationships with parents, carers and external professionals.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to annual reviews and assessment meetings.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Essential
- Previous experience teaching pupils with PMLD or significant experience teaching children with complex Special Educational Needs.
- Strong understanding of EHCPs and highly differentiated teaching.
- Experience supporting pupils with complex communication, physical disabilities and sensory needs.
- Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Passionate about delivering outstanding education for pupils with additional needs.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Available to work full-time from September 2026.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with pupils with Autism (ASD), SLD, MLD or complex medical needs.
- Knowledge of communication approaches such as Makaton, PECS, Intensive Interaction or similar.
- Experience delivering sensory-based learning and personalised interventions.
- Moving and Handling training is advantageous but not essential.
