We are seeking a dedicated, patient and resilient Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Mitcham, CR4. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with speech, language and communication needs in a specialist setting. The role involves working with children and young people who may display challenging behaviour and require consistent, supportive approaches to help them engage with learning and develop essential communication skills. The Role As a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include: Supporting pupils with speech, language and communication needs on a one-to-one basis and in small groups. Delivering speech and language activities and intervention programmes under the guidance of the Speech and Language Therapist and teaching staff. Helping pupils develop their speaking, listening, social interaction and communication skills. Supporting pupils with challenging behaviour using calm, positive and consistent behaviour-management strategies. Encouraging positive engagement, emotional regulation, confidence and independence. Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other professionals to support pupils' individual needs. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who: Has experience working with children or young people with additional needs, ideally in a PRU, SEN school or similar setting. Is patient, empathetic, resilient and confident managing challenging behaviour. Has a genuine interest in speech, language and communication development. Can build positive relationships with pupils who may find learning and communication challenging. Demonstrates excellent communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills. Is proactive, adaptable and committed to helping every pupil reach their potential. Experience in speech and language support, special educational needs (SEN) or behaviour management would be advantageous. What's on Offer? Β£100βΒ£120 per day , depending on experience.
