Are you an English Teacher looking for a new opportunity where you can make a real difference to the lives of young people? We are currently looking for a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join a supportive specialist setting in Croydon, working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role will involve teaching KS3 and KS4 English within small class groups, providing a more personalised learning environment where you can build strong relationships with pupils and support them to achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging and accessible English lessons across KS3 and KS4.
  • Support pupils working towards GCSE and other relevant qualifications.
  • Adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs and abilities.
  • Work with small classes to provide focused and personalised support.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Support pupils' academic, social and emotional development.
  • Maintain a calm, structured and positive classroom environment.
  • Monitor and assess pupil progress and provide appropriate feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and support staff.
  • Follow safeguarding, behaviour and school policies at all times.

Requirements

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is essential.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English.
  • Experience teaching KS3 and/or KS4.
  • Experience working with, or a strong understanding of, SEMH pupils is highly desirable.
  • Experience within PRU, alternative provision, SEND or specialist settings would be advantageous.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
