We’re recruiting for an experienced Operations Manager to join a successful and growing business based in Rugby. This is a key appointment for the company and an opportunity for someone to come in, take ownership of the day-to-day operational function and help ensure everything runs as efficiently and smoothly as possible.
Managing a team of three Operations Administrators, you’ll be responsible for bringing structure, improving processes and ensuring the team delivers a consistently high level of service to both customers and the wider business. We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running – a confident people manager who can quickly understand how the business operates, identify where improvements can be made and, importantly, put those changes into practice.
The role
People management will be at the heart of this position. You’ll lead, support and develop the Operations Administration team, ensuring workloads are managed effectively, standards are maintained and everyone understands their priorities. You’ll also take a wider view of the operational side of the business, looking at the complete journey from a contract being awarded through to completion and identifying ways to make that journey smoother for both the business and its customers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing, supporting and developing a team of three Operations Administrators
- Overseeing day-to-day workflow, priorities and workloads across the team
- Ensuring contracts progress smoothly from award through to completion
- Reviewing existing processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency
- Implementing new procedures and ways of working across the operational function
- Creating greater structure, accountability and consistency within the team
- Working closely with the Managing Director and other areas of the business
- Maintaining regular communication with customers throughout the delivery of contracts
- Proactively contacting customers following completion to gather feedback and ensure they are happy with the service received
- Identifying recurring issues or areas for improvement and putting solutions in place
- Ensuring communication between customers, operations and the wider business is clear and effective
- Helping to continually improve the overall customer experience
- Monitoring performance and ensuring consistently high standards are maintained
About you
We’re looking for an experienced Operations Manager who can hit the ground running, quickly understand the business and bring strong leadership, structure and organisation to the team. You don’t need to have worked specifically within forestry or landscaping, but you will need experience from a relevant contract or project-led industry where you’ve been responsible for coordinating operational activity, managing people and delivering a high level of service to customers. Experience within sectors such as construction, landscaping, highways, civil engineering, utilities, facilities management, environmental services or a similar operational environment would transfer particularly well.
You’ll ideally have:
- Strong people management experience, with the ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
- Experience within a contract or project-led operational environment
- A good understanding of the journey from a contract being awarded through to successful delivery and completion
- Experience of reviewing and improving operational processes and procedures
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Confidence dealing directly with customers and building strong working relationships
- A proactive approach to customer service, including following up after completion and gathering feedback
- The ability to identify problems, introduce practical solutions and ensure improvements are followed through
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work closely with senior management
- A hands-on approach – someone who is comfortable getting involved rather than simply managing from a distance
Above all, we’re looking for someone who can come into an established operation, get under the skin of how things currently work and make them work better.
What’s on offer?
Salary up to £55,000 depending on experience + Car allowance (After 3 month probation) + Profit Related Pay + Pension + Career Progression. This is a great opportunity to take ownership of an important function within a growing business. You’ll have the autonomy to review how things are currently done, develop the team and introduce improvements that have a genuine impact on both operational performance and the customer experience.
If you’re an experienced operations professional who enjoys leading people, improving processes and making things run better, we’d love to hear from you.
