Part time ward & Community phlebotomists required at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Queen Mary's Hospital and Community sites. The successful candidate will be part of a team and based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital working daily on our busy wards. The candidate will also work cross sites and outreach clinics within the Trust at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, Eltham Community Hospital and other Community sites in Bexley and Greenwich.

Requirements:

  • At least 6 months experience as a phlebotomist.
  • Experience working on Hospital Wards is ESSENTIAL.

Job responsibilities:

  • To collect blood samples safely and efficiently in accordance with good laboratory practice and trust policies.
  • To collect blood samples from patients as requested by an authorised officer, by venepuncture, skin puncture or other approved methods.
  • Ensure samples are collected into the appropriate tubes and labelled correctly, with date/time/signature on the request form.
  • Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients respecting welfare and dignity.
  • Maintain safety, infection control, and keep phlebotomy areas clean and tidy.
  • Provide reception service for patients and, where necessary, production of specimen labels.

Person specification:

  • Essential: Basic Numeracy and literacy; NVQ level 2 or 6 months practical phlebotomy experience.
  • Desirable: Experience of laboratory computer systems; Paediatric phlebotomy; Previous hospital experience.

Knowledge: Understanding of Health & Safety in Phlebotomy; patient and staff confidentiality.

Skills: Clear communication; diplomacy; ability to follow standard procedures.
