Your Office Toronto and University Hospital Lewisham are looking for a dedicated Physiotherapy Lead to manage and develop the therapy services within the Emergency Department. The postholder will work alongside the Occupational Therapy team and the Inpatient Physiotherapy Lead to lead a Band 7 team, supervise Band 6–4 and assistants, and provide clinical education, audit and research.

Job Purpose

The Physiotherapy Team Lead provides clinical leadership to physiotherapy staff working in the Emergency Department pathway on UHL. The postholder independently manages a significant clinical caseload, supports other team members, and supervises day‐to‐day running of the service.

Responsibilities

  • Carry a large autonomous clinical caseload, including complex presentations, in the ED, AAU, UCC and short‐stay wards.
  • Lead and develop the Therapy Team – supervise, train and support Band 6–4 and assistants.
  • Develop and maintain senior respiratory physiotherapy skills and contribute to the on‐call and weekend respiratory rota.
  • Provide clinical education to undergraduate physiotherapy students.
  • Coordinate a rolling programme of audit, training and research within the Emergency Care pathway.
  • Maintain clinical governance, manage clinical risk and ensure compliance with national and Trust guidelines.
  • Ensure accurate, up‐to‐date clinical records and participate in case conferences and discharge planning.
  • Provide expert clinical advice to multidisciplinary teams and other agencies, including assessment and management of complex patients.
  • Assist with public and confidential communication using appropriate services such as interpreters.
  • Support the staff's professional development and help maintain competence through continuous learning.
  • Participate in institutional EDI initiatives and contribute to creating an inclusive workforce.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Physiotherapist with Band 7 experience or established Band 7 physiotherapist.
  • Previous experience working in an Emergency Department or Same‐Day Emergency Care setting, with exposure to frailty patients.
  • Strong leadership skills – ability to supervise, train and develop team members.
  • Commitment to clinical audit, research and continuous professional development.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to work 7‐day roster, including on‐call and weekend shifts.
  • English proficiency as required for clinical work in the UK.
