We know how difficult it can be to juggle your home/work life balance so we can be flexible with hours to suit your needs. Please note however, this service is 7 days a week.
Responsibilities
Care for clients with confirmed PROM, suspected obstetric cholestasis, reduced fetal movements, hypertension, proteinuria and pre-eclampsia.
Take charge of shifts advising junior midwives, doctors and community colleagues on the management of high risk antenatal and postnatal women/birthing people.
Utilise clinical guidelines to their full potential, facilitating midwifery management of high risk antenatal and postnatal care.
Engage in assessment development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for specific groups of clients as the named care provider and support the care of all clients on the ward/unit.
Provide supervision, care and advice to women/birthing people during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period and, if required, conduct deliveries under own responsibility and care for the newborn.
Participate in continuing professional development and other development activities; complete a preceptorship programme.
Provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to midwifery and support staff in the delivery of evidence based client centred care.
Support the shift co-ordinator to ensure the effective running of the ward/unit in their absence.
Teach and supervise student midwives, student nurses and medical students as part of the role.
Qualifications and Requirements
Qualified midwife with sound knowledge in all areas of midwifery care to facilitate clinical practice development.
Ability to provide effective communication and leadership to the team.
Experience with deliveries and postnatal care as part of the midwifery role.

If working in the hospital, the post requires effective communication and an ability to provide support for the shift co-ordinator to ensure the effective running of the ward/unit in their absence. The post holder will also provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to midwifery and support staff in the delivery of evidence based client centred care.
