Job Summary

Asses, diagnose, implement, and develop individualized assessment and treatment programmes for patients presenting with foot pathologies and medical needs across clinical, domiciliary, hospital and other settings, with a patient‑centred, multidisciplinary approach.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out assessments and treatments of podiatry patients in clinics, nursing homes and patient homes.
  • Provide specialist care for systemic diseases, immunosuppressive disorders, vascular and neurological disorders, dermatological disorders, chronic pathologies, emergency treatments, wound management, musculoskeletal disorders, paediatric conditions, deformities, nail and skin pathologies.
  • Develop and implement tailored podiatric care plans, with regular review and coordination of further interventions.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate referrals to other specialists (GPs, District Nursing, Hospital Acute Foot Clinic, Social services, voluntary organisations).
  • Treat patients with special needs, house‑bound, children, elderly, vulnerable groups and those from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in managing serious high‑risk pathologies (e.g., infected foot ulcers) and undertake specialist diabetes and high‑risk sessions.
  • Administer local anaesthesia injections and manage anaphylactic emergencies.
  • Prescribe, fabricate and evaluate chair‑side insoles/orthotics, exercise and stretching regimes, and bespoke orthoses.
  • Perform minor surgery assessments and treatments (nail surgery, electro‑surgery).
  • Work autonomously across Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust sites as required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • State registration to HPC.
  • Podiatry Diploma/Degree.
  • Local anaesthesia administration certificate.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Full driver’s licence.

Desirable

  • IRMER certificate.
  • POMs certificate.
  • Evidence of CPD portfolio.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to diagnose, construct, document, implement and evaluate care plans using a holistic approach.
  • Strong decision‑making and organisational skills, especially for high‑risk caseloads.
  • Proficiency in electronic records (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication across all age groups and professional contexts.
  • Expertise with specialist diagnostic & therapeutic equipment (doppler ultrasound, neurothesiometer, gait analysis systems).
  • Manual dexterity, hand‑eye coordination, keyboard activity.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 1 year postgraduate experience treating high‑risk caseloads (wounds, diabetes).
  • Experience in minor surgical procedures, biomechanics, local anaesthesia injection, full patient assessment and coaching.

Desirable

  • 2 years postgraduate experience with diabetic and ischemic foot ulceration.
  • Involvement in health education and clinical coaching.
  • Specialist podiatry training (surgery, diabetes, R.A.).
