This is an excellent opportunity for someone at an early stage of their finance career who is keen to develop their technical knowledge, gain practical experience and progress within a supportive finance environment.
You will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of the finance function, with a particular focus on purchase ledger, reconciliations, reporting and month-end activities. You will work closely with both finance and non-finance colleagues, gaining exposure to a broad range of accounting processes.
As Purchase Ledger Assistant, you will help ensure financial transactions are accurately processed and records are maintained to a high standard. You will also have the opportunity to develop your understanding of accounting processes, systems and internal controls while supporting the wider finance team.
- Processing supplier invoices and matching them against purchase orders.
- Reconciling supplier statements and investigating any discrepancies.
- Responding to supplier queries and resolving invoice-related issues.
- Processing outgoing payments in line with company procedures.
- Maintaining and reconciling the purchase ledger.
- Entering financial transactions accurately into the accounting system.
- Supporting bank reconciliations and account reconciliations.
- Setting up and maintaining customer and supplier accounts.
- Preparing and maintaining expense reports.
- Maintaining accurate digital and physical financial records.
- Supporting month-end processes, including posting routine journals.
- Assisting with the administration of the shared finance inbox.
- Developing an understanding of expense accounts and business divisions.
- Supporting annual audits, statutory filings and other finance projects when required.
- Responding to ad-hoc queries and providing support across the wider finance team.
We are looking for someone who is actively studying towards further education in finance and is keen to put their learning into practice. You do not need to have years of experience. We are more interested in your attitude, attention to detail, willingness to learn and genuine interest in developing a career in finance.
You will ideally have:
- Current or recent study towards AAT, AAT Level 3/4, or another relevant finance/accounting qualification.
- Strong Excel skills, including experience using PivotTables and lookups.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The confidence to work with both finance and non-finance colleagues.
- An understanding of basic financial processes, controls and procedures.
- Previous experience within a finance environment would be beneficial, but isn't essential.
- Experience using SAGE X3 would be an advantage.
