This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Sustainability professional to join Your Housing Group’s Asset Strategy and Sustainability team as our Sustainability Lead. We’re making a big difference right now to the lives of our customers as we bring thousands of homes up to EPC C by 2030 through the Social Housing Fund: Warm Homes programme. We are committed to continuing to make our homes more comfortable and energy efficient as we build compliance with the new Heat Networks regulations and plan for meeting Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards from 2030.
We are looking for a sustainability expert who is passionate about improving the lives of our customers; someone who cares as much about the details of a PV installation as about a sustainability and net zero strategy for over 30,000 homes!
You will have a home-based contract but there is the requirement with this role to visit our Head Office in Birchwood, Warrington for meetings and training courses when needed. You will also on occasion need to visit our customers and properties from time to time. Realistically, you will be required to visit our Head Office approximately once, sometimes twice a week, so ideally you will be based in the North West within a comfortable commute to Warrington, Cheshire.
First and foremost, you will be the SME for the business in ensuring that we deliver our retrofit commitments up to 2028 through the Social Housing: Warm Homes Fund programme, that all our homes meet EPC C by 2030 and we have a plan to meet Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards by 2039, and beyond that Net Zero in 2050. There's a real opportunity here to set up and manage cross team partnerships, build effective processes and manage the technical aspects of retrofits for our customers and really own the data, to enable us to model the portfolio and determine where improvements are required as accurately and smartly as possible.
One of the great things about this role is that you will be using your skills and experience in sustainability and energy efficiency to improve the lives of thousands of our customers across the North West and Staffordshire. You will also ensure we are fully compliant with Heat Networks regulations, and will be instrumental in helping YHG to become a more energy efficient organisation. Importantly you will also manage and coach our small, yet dedicated Sustainability team, which is likely to continue to grow over the next 18 months.
To be a successful Sustainability Lead here at YHG, you will already have a great track record in all things sustainability, energy efficiency and carbon reduction. First-hand experience of the Warm Homes fund (or SHDF) and confident both bidding for, and managing, programmes of retrofit in social housing. A detailed understanding of local and national environmental and sustainability drivers within social housing asset management. Educated to degree level or have an equivalent relevant technical qualification (e.g. CEnv, RICS, CIOB).
Ideally you will be a great team player capable of building relationships across a large organisation. A confident relationship builder and leader of people, able to professionally influence and challenge stakeholders and partners at all levels, both internally and externally. An energy data specialist who loves to see their plans become reality! This role is really suited to someone who is self-motivated, customer-focused and happy to get stuck in, leading the Energy & Sustainability team and building collaborative relationships across YHG to make a real difference to the lives of our customers.
In return we offer £55,000 - £65,000 for a 35-hour week, and 25 days annual leave (holidays also increase with time served) plus Bank Holidays. At #TeamYHG we measure performance on outputs and quality, not hours and minutes. We offer a flexible, homeworking culture where you’re trusted to get the job done. If you need time for an appointment, the school run or an exercise class, if it fits with business needs, we’re open to what works for you too.
On top of this, we’ll provide you with a great benefits package, including a contributory pension where we match whatever you choose to contribute (up to 8%), an advanced level Healthcare cash plan through Medicash, that doesn’t just provide dental and optician cashback but also health and wellbeing benefits (such as 24/7 GP Access, money back from prescriptions and alternative therapy treatments) and an amazing discount scheme that gives you access to half price cinema tickets, subsidised gym memberships and a huge range of discounts with some of the biggest high street and online names.

Closing Date: 24/5/26. We review applications as they’re received and reserve the right to close this advert early; if you’re interested, please apply ASAP to avoid disappointment.
