At Metro Bank, we believe the best banking experience starts with people who genuinely care. We’re not just delivering banking services - we’re building trust through authentic connections. Here, our people come first; our colleagues are part of a team that values individuality, collaboration, and long-standing relationships. We are also all about balance so most of our jobs offer the opportunity for hybrid working built around your role and home life, wherever possible.

What you will do:

  • Support the Head of Audit to develop and execute the risk-based Transformation and Change Audit Plan to provide assurance to the Audit Committee and Board on programme delivery risks and report findings in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to high level IA planning and prioritisation through an understanding of the Bank’s major transformation programmes, change portfolios and strategic initiatives.
  • Determine the risks and key controls in scope and develop the test plan, including use of a range of audit techniques, from observation and interviews through to data analytics and AI tools.
  • Delivery of the audit work, using continuous monitoring, inflight reviews and standard audits as appropriate.
  • Consider detailed and sometimes complex audit findings, taking a balanced view of the impact and determining the root cause.
  • Prepare and present reports that reflect the audit results with actionable recommendations.
  • Maintain strong standards of documentation, supporting audit conclusions in compliance with GIAS requirements, the IA Charter, and IA methodology.
  • Coordinate and oversee IA colleagues and co-sourced partner resources working on the audit.
  • Follow up management actions and ensure that they have been implemented and the risk addressed.
  • Build strong relationships with relevant senior stakeholders across the Bank and attend key committees.
  • Maintain awareness of other assurance activities in 1LOD/2LOD and within internal audit, and how this impacts own work.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging risks, regulatory developments and industry practices relating to transformation and change, adapting audit focus when required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in IA practices, e.g., use of AI tools.
  • Any other duties as required that reasonably fall within the job.

And... we are a bank so risk is a part of everything we do. We love people who take responsibility, do the right thing for customers, colleagues and Metro Bank and have the ability to call out any concerns.

What you will need:

  • Strong understanding of change and transformation risk frameworks within financial services, including programme governance and delivery models.
  • Experience assessing programme and project management methodologies, with a focus on identifying delivery risks, evaluating governance arrangements, and providing assurance over key controls across the change lifecycle.
  • Awareness of regulatory expectations relating to outsourcing and change risk management.
  • Experience of assurance over controls and compliance by design.
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g IIA qualification and / or specialist qualifications such as PRINCE2, MSP, Agile PM, SAFe qualifications or CISA).
  • Proven experience in auditing or overseeing large-scale transformation or change programmes, including governance and delivery risk.

Our promise to you…

We believe in “one in, one up” at Metro Bank, growing our own and promoting from within. That is why we are looking for YOU! An AMAZEING colleague to move into this FANtastic new role! We will make sure that you are well-rewarded by providing you with a competitive salary, discretionary annual bonus, and a wide range of benefits, including generous holiday allowance, attractive pension scheme, healthcare, life assurance, and a number of colleague discounts! We will give you the training to ensure you succeed in your role and plenty of internal opportunities to progress your career (around 40% of our recruitment comes from internal promotions!)

Important Footnote

Diverse teams really are the best teams. We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box. We also know that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t always doable, and while we can’t accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked. So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren’t sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl? Good luck!
